Guided tours of the former Lamaque Mine have ended for the 2026 season.

However, the museum, its exhibition “Gold Runs Through Our Veins,” and our gift shop remain open:

• 7 days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., until September 13
• Thursday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from September 17 to October 4

Guided tours of the former Lamaque Mine are offered until August 30. After that date, the museum and its exhibition, “Gold Runs in Our Veins,” as well as our gift shop, remain open from Friday to Sunday until the end of October. The self-guided, free tour of the Bourlamaque Mining Village is available year-round.

FREQUENTLY ASQUED QUESTIONS

On what dates and at what times are tours offered?
• The Cité de l’Or opens in mid-May. From that time onward, the museum and its De l’or plein les veines exhibition, as well as the gift shop, are open from Thursday to Sunday. Guided tours of the former Lamaque Mine and the surface buildings begin around June 20. Tickets for these guided tours can be purchased online in advance starting in early May. Guided tours are offered until Labour Day. Afterward, during September and October, the museum and gift shop remain open on weekends.

How early should we arrive for our guided tour?
• Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Where should we go when we arrive for our tour?
• Please go to the main building, known as the Dry, where the reception desk, gift shop and museum are located.

What is the temperature inside the mine?
• The temperature ranges from 5 to 7 °C.

How will we get around inside the mine?
• You will travel on foot, following the tour guide along a paved pathway.

Are we allowed to take photos during the tour?
• Yes, photos may be taken at any time. However, while travelling down into the mine by vehicle, we ask that you not use a flash, as it may distract the driver.

When can we visit the historic house, which is included with the purchase of a guided-tour ticket?
• The historic house can be visited during its opening hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

What is the address of the historic house?
• 123 Perrault Avenue.

Can we bring personal belongings underground?
• Yes. You may also leave them in the reception building during the tour.

Do we have to go underground to visit the site?
• No. Surface-only tours are also available, allowing visitors to explore the surface buildings.

Do we have to wear any special equipment during the tour?
• Yes. For the underground tour, each visitor is provided with a helmet, belt, lamp and, when required, coveralls.

How will we travel down into the mine?
• You will travel in a specially modified Toyota Land Cruiser mining vehicle.

How long does the descent take?
• Approximately 10 minutes, including the journey from the reception building to the mine entrance and down to a depth of 91 metres. The underground portion of the descent itself takes less than two minutes.

In what language are the tours offered?
• Tours are offered in French. However, safety instructions can be provided in English upon request. Bilingual information panels are also installed underground.

Can tours be offered in another language?
• Yes, tours may be offered in English. However, a request must be made in advance, and a minimum number of participants is required for an English-language tour to be scheduled.

Can we purchase food on site?
• Yes. A small snack counter located inside the gift shop offers beverages and snacks.

How can we visit the Bourlamaque Mining Village?
• The Bourlamaque Mining Village, located next to the Cité de l’Or, can be explored independently and free of charge throughout the year. Information panels are installed along Perrault Street and Perry Drive. On these same two streets, you will also find the Golden Nuggets panels, which feature QR codes providing access to entertaining historical video clips. These videos are also available on our website.
