It's the discovery
of a vein of gold in 1923 that brought about the exploration
of the future mine site.
In 1932, the Lamaque Gold Mines becomes involved in the project
and exploits the ore body as of 1935. The company will become
the richest gold mine in Quebec for a few decades.
Closed in 1985, the
Lamaque mine was converted to an exploration centre named
La Cité de l'Or. Thus, in June of 1995, La Cité
de l'Or becomes a reality allowing people to discover a real
mine at 300 feet underground while being dressed as a miner.
To the underground
experience is added a visit to the surface buildings including
the assay office where we will initiate you to the transformation
of gold. Furthermore, discover the historical site of the
Mining village of Bourlamaque constructed by the mine for
its miners.
