La Cité de l’Or

is the only site in Canada that brings the visitor in the heart of a gold mine exploitation from one of the most productive in the country, and where we can visit a historic mining village still occupied today.

La Cité de l’Or offers guided tours which include

A 300 feets underground visit (91 m) of a real mine’s levels;
A visit of the old Lamaque mine’s main buildings, including the permanent showroom;
An interpretation tour of Bourlamaque’s mining village, including a stop to the hictoric house;
A temporary photo exhibition from the movie Je me souviens, made by André Forcier;
A temporary exhibition of frescoes realized in the 1950’s by an immigrant miner.

The year 2009 celebrates the 75th anniversary of Bourlamaque’s foundation, the 30th anniversary of Bourlamaque mining village’s ranking as historic site and the 15th anniversary of guided tours of La Cité de l’Or. The site abounds in small treasures that shows the daily life of several generations of mining workers. It’s up to you to discover them.
